Fundamentals of Raman Spectroscopy

In this one hour instructional webinar, we will discuss the fundamentals of Raman scattering and how it has evolved into a modern spectroscopic technique. The course instructor will provide a brief overview of Raman scattering from both a classical and quantum mechanical perspective, discuss how Raman scattering is used in spectroscopy, and how modern lasers and spectrometers have enabled the creation of portable and handheld Raman spectrometers.

The second half of the course will provide an overview of Raman spectroscopy instrumentation and many common applications of Raman spectroscopy. Applications to be covered include (but are not limited to) material identification & quantification, forensics analysis, art & archaeology, and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). There will also be an open questions and answer session immediately following the presentation.
